Shielding: Sheet Metal

One of the cheapest and quickest ways to shield yourself from ElectroMagnetic Fields is to use sheet metal. You can look in your telephone book to find companies that specialize in sheet metal (such as Copper, Aluminum, Steel). Sheets of metal may also be sold at your local hardware store.

The cost of sheet metal can vary significantly from approximately $10 - 300 per sheet.

To use the sheet metal, lean the sheet metal up against your interior wall in the direction from which you believe the ElectroMagnetic Fields are originating. You can place multiple sheets along one wall. You do not need to fix or nail the sheet metal to the wall. Simply leaning the sheet metal carefully against the wall is sufficient - which makes this a relatively quick and easy shielding solution to implement. Be careful to not cut your hands in moving the sheet metal as the metal edges are sharp.

In addition to using solid sheets of metal, you can use sheet metal that is perforated with holes or with a corrugated (wave) pattern. The effect of metal patterns is not well understood; it is believed that the irregular pattern disrupts, weakens, or scatters the intensity of electromagnetic fields.

Note that in certain arrangements, metal can exacerbate an existing field. This is particularly true if the metal is contaminated or the metal itself contains or is very close to a transmitting electronics device.
